Project Details
An innovative housing development project for Havebury Housing Partnership– thought to be the first of its kind with construction students from West Suffolk College working alongside Havebury Housing Partnership to build seven new homes.
The scheme, included three high specification houses and four flats on a former underused garage site on Mitchell Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, giving students unprecedented hands on experience of a real life development project.
Students from all of the trade courses at West Suffolk College were involved in the project and worked alongside external contractors at every stage of the delivery, including members of the Havebury team, Infinity Architects, Cocksedge Building Contractors and Oxbury and Co.
The concept design was selected following a design competition involving Higher Education students from West Suffolk College, the design was developed by Infinity Architects.
During the construction phase the selected contractor engaged with the local community. The implementation of this approach to the delivery of the project has proved to be a valuable and rewarding experience for our clients and all involved, ultimately we believe as a consequence the buildings and environments that have been delivered have been truly informed by the community who have taken ownership of the design and proposals and they clearly see them as a community asset.
