Project Details
This residential scheme in Portugal Street, in central Cambridge, replaces the old Cambridge University Fives and Rackets Club. The client, Aquila Investments Limited, appointed BCR to design a speculative scheme. The design strategy looked to rework the urban and contextual qualities of the immediate area, comprising of mainly Victorian residential properties, in a contemporary manner.
The town houses were built using traditional materials and construction. Buff brickwork with architectural concrete details, the windows are a mixture of wood and metal and the roofs are finished in slate. The barrel vaulted studio unit roof, gutters and downpipes are pre-weathered zinc. Garage and open car parking was provided to the rear of the properties.
